Northumberland & Durham County Championships 2008

The club has 3 qualifiers for the Age Group Championships: Robert Carr in the 13 years 100m breaststroke, Fraser Garland in the 10 years 50m breaststroke, and Bethany Stout in the 9 years 50m breaststroke.

Alasdair Inverarity is the club's only representative at the Open Championships, with 4 qualifying times in the 50m, 100m, 200m breaststroke, and the 100m butterfly.

Congratulations to all four swimmers on their excellent achievement.  (See the gala reports page for an update on how they got on.)

ANNUAL CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS 2007

The club championships took place on 17th November 2007.  The standard of swimming was high once again, with 4 new club records being set during the competition.  There were some closely fought age groups particularly in the 9 and under boys and the 11 and under boys, where the trophies have ended up in three different homes for the year.  It was fabulous to watch these exciting races and to see some real talent in the younger end of the club.  As always the swimming from the older age groups was impressive, with particular mention going to Rebecca Proud who took all four trophies in the 13 and under girls age group, as well as winning both the ladies open events.

The Minnows gave an excellent demonstration of their skills with an individual race and an exciting relay.  A particular well done goes to the few Minnows who also entered the 9 and under events and to those Tadpoles for whom this was their first competition.

The trophies and medals were presented after the gala by Mr Craig Nicholson, ASA North East Region RDO, and Cllr Milburn Douglas, Mayor of Castle Morpeth.  Thanks to them for giving up their time, and also to all the volunteers, both on the poolside and in the background, for all their help in making this such a successful event.

A list of all trophy winners, and a link to the full results listing, can be found on the gala reports page.

CONGRATULATIONS!!!

Derek Thompson

Derek has been awarded a Regional Aquaforce Volunteer Award (ASA North East Region) for the category of Long Service Award (25 years or more)

Our thanks and congratulations go to Derek for all the work he has put into the club.

The Club's AGM took place on 29 March 2007, and a new committee has been elected for 2007/8.  The AGM saw the stepping down of three long-standing committee members, Debbie Mulcahy (Membership Secretary), Chris Blackburn (Secretary) and Derek Thompson (Chairman).  All three of these members have given hours of their time to the club over the years, and the committee would like to extend its gratitude to all three of them for their service.  In addition, the committee has nominated Derek Thompson for an ASA Aquaforce Volunteers long service award for his exceptional commitment to the club for nearly 40 years.

Congratulations  to Carol Dawson and Lynda Garland who have passed their ASA Level 1 teaching certificate.

Club Swimmers qualify for the County Championships

4 swimmers at the club have qualified for the Northumberland and Durham County Championships.  Alex Welsh is a multi-event qualifier for the Youth Championships at the end of February, and in the Age Group Championships in early March we will have 3 representatives, with Alasdair Inverarity having qualified for the 100m and 200m breaststroke, Robert Carr for the 200m breaststroke, and Fraser Garland for the 50m freestyle.
